Mayhew Files Landmark Veterans Legislation
JEFFERSON CITY, MO. – Rep. Don Mayhew, R-Crocker, announced today that he has filed House Bill 2535, a landmark commitment to Missouri’s Veterans and Gold Star families. The bill would deliver meaningful property tax relief to disabled veterans, Purple Heart recipients, and surviving spouses of fallen service members, ensuring that no veteran or Gold Star family has to worry about losing their home because of service to this nation.
"I have always stood with our veterans, and this legislation is a continuation of that commitment," Mayhew said. "We should not have those who loyally served our country, or their families, worrying about whether they will lose their home due to rising property taxes. Our heroes deserve better than that."
With no net impact on general revenue, and without shifting costs to counties, House Bill 2535 would provide permanent, responsible tax relief while protecting local communities.
"This legislation sends a clear message: Missouri stands with its veterans," Mayhew said. "I also want those veterans to know that I stand firmly with them too."
